Launch Monitor Technology and Metrics
Launch monitors utilize three primary technologies to track ball and club data: Photometric (high-speed cameras), Doppler Radar (microwave signals), and Fusion (a hybrid of both). Here's what each of the ten units people ask about most actually tracks and how, pulled straight from the current manufacturer pages.

Accuracy Tolerances and Pricing Comparison
And here's what they actually cost, because the sticker price on a launch monitor is never the whole story once you add club data or a course subscription. I got burned once trusting a secondhand price quote for my own setup and wasted a Saturday morning on the phone with support over it. Never again -- every number below came straight off the current product page, not a blog post from two years ago.
| Model | Reported Accuracy | Base Price (USD) | Subscription Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foresight GCQuad | Tour/Fitting Grade [3] | $15,999 [1] | FSX Play + FSX Pro software included standard [1] |
| Trackman iO | Tour-Proven / Industry Standard [4] | $13,995+ [4] | $700/year software subscription [6] |
| FlightScope X3C | Professional/Tour Grade [9] | $12,745 – $14,995 [8] | No mandatory annual data fee [9] |
| Uneekor EYE XO2 | Professional/Fitting Grade [7] | $10,999 [7] | Tiered software (free Player tier; paid Pro/Champion/Ultimate) [7] |
| Full Swing KIT | Radar Precision, Tour-tested [10] | $4,999 [11] | Free cloud app included [10] |
| Bushnell Launch Pro | High (GC3 Hardware) [13] | $2,999.99 [12] | $199–$499/year for full data/sim [12] |
| SkyTrak ST+ | Within 2 yards of $20,000+ pro-grade monitors, per 3rd-party GolfBays testing [14] | $1,995 closeout (was $2,995) — no longer available new [14] | Membership plans $89.99–$399.99/year, Essential to Elite [15] |

| Garmin Approach R10 | RCT balls: up to 30x better spin-rate accuracy, up to 50% better carry-distance accuracy [22] | $499.99 – $549.99 [21] | Free app; Garmin Golf Membership $99.99/yr for extras [22] |
For what it's worth: I'm still running the SkyTrak ST+, and SkyTrak marked it "no longer available" on their own product page while I was writing this, so take that as your sign that closeout pricing on a launch monitor can turn into no pricing at all pretty fast. In my case that meant $1,995 instead of the $2,995 I actually paid back in spring 2024, plus a bargain-bin hitting mat I returned inside of two months, three feet from a lawnmower, under a 9-foot ceiling that gives me just enough room to keep the driver off the drywall. My own numbers on that setup: driver swing speed sits around 95 mph, my 7-iron carries land near 155 yards on a clean strike, and there's about eight feet between the mat and the impact screen. None of that is the perfect setup -- it's just the one that survived my garage.
